Search bars and web forms are the quiet drainers of typing energy. A Google search is short. A login form is two fields. A bank portal has a few text boxes. Filling out your address on a shipping form takes a minute. None of these are big jobs by themselves. Together, on a typical day, they add up to as much typing as a long email — and because they are scattered throughout the day, you don't notice the cumulative cost the way you'd notice it if you sat down to write a document.

How to do it

Open your browser.
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Safari running on a Mac via Boot Camp — any browser on Windows works.

Click into a search bar or text field.
Google's search box. The Bing search box. The search bar in YouTube. The login box on your bank's website. Any place where you would normally type something.

Press your hotkey.
The chime plays. The indicator shows CaringDictate is listening.

Speak what you want to search for or type.
For a Google search: "best Italian restaurant in Portland Oregon." For a form: your name, address, whatever the field is asking for. Voice typing reads the field exactly as you speak it.

Press the hotkey, then click search or tab to the next field.
Most users tab through forms with the keyboard while dictating into each field — much faster than touching the mouse to click each box.
Quick tips
Tips that make this even easier
- For Google search specifically, voice typing replaces the microphone icon. Google's built-in voice search requires you to click the microphone button each time. CaringDictate works the same way as typing — click the search box, press your hotkey, talk.
- Tab between form fields with the keyboard. Most web forms let you press Tab to move to the next field. Pressing Tab + your hotkey + speaking is faster than touching the mouse for each box.
- For passwords, type by hand. Voice typing your passwords aloud is a bad habit. Use a password manager or type passwords manually. CaringDictate is for the everyday text fields, not authentication.
- For numbers, voice typing usually works but proof carefully. "Forty seven dollars and fifty cents" sometimes becomes "$47.50" and sometimes "47 50" depending on the field. Always read back numeric input before submitting.
- Voice-type your address into shopping checkouts. "123 Main Street, Springfield, Illinois 62701" comes out cleanly. Confirm the format matches the field type (some fields want street and number separated).
- Many web apps have their own voice typing — but it's usually worse. Google Docs Voice Typing, Gmail's voice feature, etc. CaringDictate is more accurate and works in everything at once.
